I’d used another brand of noise-cancelling earmuffs for some time, when shooting pistols. I started wearing foam earplugs under the muffs–because the sound level was still uncomfortable, especially at an indoor range*–but found it was difficult to interpret speech through the combination and needed to pull off the muffs.I read a favorable review of these Walkers on the Pew Pew Tactical website, and figured I’d try them out. I’m glad I did. They’re not terribly expensive and are a bit more comfortable than the muffs I’d been using–but the deal-maker for me is that you can get some amplification of quiet sounds by turning the volume up. These muffs have some gain if you want it, IOW.Problem solved. I can hear speech just fine between courses of fire and still get good hearing protection.* Until I looked it up, I hadn’t realized how loud the impulse from a 9mm Luger cartridge was! I found several sources listing it as around 160 dB. Muffs alone attenuate sound around (say) 25 dB, so somewhere near 135 dB still makes it to your eardrum. That’s too loud for me…

Used a set that was given to me as a gift for Duck Hunting. I was a little concerned how well the speakers would handle the wind out on the marsh but it does pretty well. I can still quietly speak to my buddies in reeds with a steady wind. Still can hear the sounds that waterfowl and geese make on the marsh too. It provides ear protection without the drawbacks of traditional ear plugs or muffs. You can still hear the quieter noises so there is no significant loss of situational awareness. I purchased another set just have as a spare for whenever I bring a friend along who doesn’t have ear protection. I’ll be using these for now on while hunting.

The volume control is easy to use and the quality is amazing. Hands down best tool at the shooting range. I could see these coming in handy at other events where loud noises are present. If you need hearing protection at work I’d highly suggest these. Not sure how long the battery lasts, but they’d be worth it.

It is very hard to find a better product for the money. The noise cancellation isnt perfect, but being able to talk to your friends while keeping your ear pro on is amazing. They have held up over the years as well!

  5. Herbert Gustufson

These are awesome if you like to shoot! Loud noises are muffled so your hearing is protected, but it actually enhances all other sounds (conversation, wind, you can even hear gas crunching beneath your feet). If you shoot by yourself you can just use earplugs. However, if you’re shooting with friends and family and want to talk without removing (and then replacing) earplugs all of the time, get a pair of these bad boys!

Even though I’m a new shooter, I’ve had ears my entire life so I believe the opinion still holds water when I say that these “ears” work precisely as described, and beautifully at that.To this point, I’ve only ever used the range ears. I honestly hadn’t given much thought to being able to hear ambient noise/voices while still blocking out the percussion from adjacent gunfire. After recently purchasing my own CC firearm it was time to build out my range bag, and this was one of the first editions.ABOUT THE SOUND/Ambient Noise Pass-thru:This is an entirely new level of Gun Fun ASMR. Once turned on, you can adjust the “volume” of the ambient noise passthrough which is actually paired with the headphones’ sound sensitivity as well. Meaning, that if you roll it to the stops where ambient passthrough is at-max, you can hear EVERYTHING. If you’ve ever wondered what Spiderman felt like when he was getting used to his senses, I’d say this pretty close to what you’d experience because I could hear conversations from across the room, the guy reloading his mag 5 stalls down, even the sound of my fingertips rubbing together. This also means I could hear the AC unit grumbling above my head, people shuffling their feet, door latches clasping and un-clasping…..it’s a lot. With that being said, even though the full range of ambient noise pass-through is nifty, I’ve found that my personal preference is “barely on”.Comfort:Very comfortable. I don’t know how else to put it. 2-3hrs slinging hot lead downrange didn’t see me adjusting the strap for comfort. The ear cups actually adjust very accurately for a solid seal and are more than adequately padded for comfort.Build Quality:Very solid feel; there’s a pleasant “heft” to them and it’s immediately apparent that these were not cheaply-made and you won’t find any poorly fit parts. They feel like they’ll last for quite some time.Accessories/Sustainability:They do come with 2x Duracell AAA batteries, but I just tossed them into the junk drawer and popped in my own rechargeable ones. Reason being, you’re GOING to forget to turn them off eventually and find a week later that you’ve sapped the batteries (which they’ll work perfectly fine for sound/percussion suppression without them) but….why be wasteful, you know?Would I buy again?Ha. already did. I mean, if you’ve got black, you gotta have OD green too, right >:)

I am a fairly new shooter so I love that I can get instruction and still protect my ears. My husband and I can talk all we need to for range drills or whatever and the shots don’t bother me a bit. I love that I can adjust these for loudness and will never go back to regular earmuffs again.

It’s my second pair I bought..had to get pair for my son because they work so goodPlus you can’t beat the price

    Buone

I have both the Walkers Razor and the Howard Leight Impact sport. They are both roughly in the same price range so I think they make for a very fair comparison.Walkers RazorPro’s: The Razor Dampens sound faster and more effectively than the Impact Sport. That was a huge surprise for me. More comfortable fit than the Impact Sport Background noise is less with the Razor Seals better around my ears with less irritation. Volume knob is easier to reach with the Razor Earphone jack has rubber cover to prevent water from getting in. The Impact sport is just left open. Battery compartment is better on the Razor, it has real spring loaded negative terminals. The impact sport has no springs.Cons: The sound is better on the Razor with less background his, but it is Omni Directional, so I have no idea where it is coming from until I look around. It uses metal grills over the input Mics. The Impact Sports use foam. I suspect the foam will disintegrate a lot faster but while it is there it cuts down on the wind noises that are picked up. The Walkers Razors which have no foam amplify the wind a lot more.Things that are the same:The build quality is about the same on both of them. The plastic is just about the same quality and they both have the same kind of metal and plastic bands holding on the muffs. In terms of looks the Razor looks much nicer but the flat black of the Razor will also scratch easier. The Battery cover is a bit more secure on the Razor but on the other hand the Impact sport has a leather looking head strap while the Razor uses a Nylon type strap. Both feel equally good so it’s hard to say which will last longer. The straps adjust exactly the same and they will both adjust to most head sizes. I find both of them to be a bit tight at the start but they both loosen up over time.I went into this thinking the Impact Sport was going to be the better Muff. Most of the guys on the range use them so it had to be true.Well it turns out that Walker studied the Impact Sport very well and figured out how to beat them on almost every feature. The only thing I do not like is the omni directional sound, but the fact that the Razor is quieter, sealed the deal for me.

This is for anyone that already has some audio processing issues or are sensitive to sound. I have what I jokingly (but seriously) call super human hearing. I’m super sensitive to sound and can hear volumes and pitches that the majority of humans shouldn’t be able to even detect. I also have a condition where it’s hard to process speech when there are multiple people talking or a lot of background noise. So if you’re like me, here’s how these worked for me.They do what they’re supposed to. I’ve only used them on an open range while shooting a little Glock .22 and HK VP9 (9MM) pistols as well as a sniper rifle. While shooting the pistols, I was able to hear my buddy perfectly even when we were both firing at the same time and talking to each other throughout. If there’s a lot of wind (or swarming evil flies) there is a bit of background noise that you’ll have to try and ignore but it never became overbearing or loud. While it did great with the pistols and provided great protection, if I were going to spend more time with the rifle, I would need additional dampening like some foam ear plugs. I would just turn up the volume so I can still hear people around me through the ear plugs. I would still recommend these for rifles because they do stay out of the way of the cheek rest. I could still rest my cheek perfectly to be able to hit my target dead center at 700 yards. As far as comfort, I’m honestly amazed! I’m a bit of an audiophile and have a pair of campfire audio over the ear headphones that I can’t wear as long as these. I never got the sore spot on the top of my head, didn’t get the weird pressure pain from pressing into my head for extended periods of time, nothing. After a while, I simply forgot I had them on. The ear cups can get a bit sweaty but a quick swip with my shirt (or you can be all civilized with a small cloth) and it was good as new. Plus, they’re compact and take AAA batteries. I recommend having rechargable batteries and a charger in your car so you can swap them out real quick if the batteries die. With these being so inexpensive, I ordered a couple more sets so I can have one in hand in case someone forgets their ear protection as well as a pair for my husband to go with the gun I’m getting him for our anniversary (yeah, I know, I’m a great wife; total keeper).

Got two pairs cause they were %50 off and they are definitely worth it even at normal price. Great sound, very crisp and and solid feedback. Decently comfortable and easy to use and adjust. Overall 10/10 would highly recommend

I ordered these (Christmas 2021) so my girlfriend could have a pair of electronic ear muffs like mine when we go shooting. I have the Act Fire version, but these were on sale when I ordered them and the Act Fires were not. They do exactly what they are supposed to, allowing you to hear normal level sounds, but instantly subduing loud sounds like gunfire. The only issue with these compared to the Act Fire version is that the sound is not in stereo and you cannot tell where the sounds around you are coming from. With the Act Fire’s you can tell if the sounds you hear are coming from the left, right, forward, or behind. This being said, the Walker’s are an excellent product and a more well known name. I added a picture to show I really do have both sets and have really compared them. I just got the new Act Fire electronic earplugs seen in the pic and these things are game changers, pricey, but game changers. (no, I do not work for Act Fire)

    Brilliant kit
Absolutely brilliant!Crystal clear sound without the annoying cut out when a gun goes off. The only downside is I can hear a fart louder than a gunshot…now, if they could only filter that out as well…
